Question: What do I get when I buy a copy of Particle Universe?
Answer:
- Particle Universe Editor (Windows only) and manual
- Runtime Ogre plugin (C++) including source and manual
- Commandline tool to create atlas textures
- Demo application for Ogre's Samplebrowser

Question: Is Particle Universe useful for something else than games?
Answer: Yes, it is possible to export a particle effect to an AVI or SWF or a WMV file or as a series of images in PNG, JPG, TIFF format. You can import this in any video editting software.

Question: Is Particle Universe mature enough to be used in a commercial game?
Answer: Particle Universe has been used in several commercial games, such as Torchlight and is used in some other upcoming major games which cannot be disclosed at the moment.

Question: Can Particle Universe also be used in other engines?
Answer: Particle Universe is developed for Ogre3D. If you want to use it in another engine, you have to port the plugin to this engine.

Question: Can Particle Universe also be used on other platforms?
Answer: The Particle Universe plugin has been developed on Windows, but it can be ported to Linux or Mac (iPhone, iPad), without much effort. The Particle Universe editor however is Windows-only.

Question: Do I get the code when I buy a copy?
Answer: You get the full source code (C++) of the plugin, but not the code of the editor.

Question: Am I allowed to modify the code?
Answer: Yes.

Question: May I include Particle Universe in my game engine and sell my engine?
Answer: No. Even though you make changes or port Particle Universe, you basicly are reselling Particle Universe as a brand. You either have to contact me for a specific arrangement or let your clients sell a license individually from http://www.fxpression.com

Question: I am the only developer, created a game and going to sell 1,000,000 copies. How many licenses do I need?
Answer: If you create a game you don't resell Particle Universe as a particle engine, but just make use of it in your application. You are allowed to include the runtime plugin as a dll or statically link it with your application and you may include the (changed) example scripts and the textures. You are not allowed to include the editor or the atlas texture tool. If you are the only developer and sell 1,000,000 copies of your game you just still need 1 Particle Universe license.

Question: We are a team of 10 developers and 3 developers are using Particle Universe. How many licenses do I need?
Answer: 3 licenses. The license is per computer installation.

Question: If I buy a license, do I get updates?
Answer: Yes, you can PM me on the forum with the your share-it purchase id, and I sent you a link were you can download the update.

Question: What is the extended download and do I need it?
Answer: The extended download makes it possible to download Particle Universe during a longer time. It is a service of Share-it, which handles the payments. I think this is a worthless service to get more money. You can receive updates through me (spookyboo), even if you loose your copy of Particle Universe (but don't loose you share-it purchase id).
