Camera Position Information

Postby realblues on Thu Sep 24, 2009 6:54 am

Hi
We need Some support for Camera.
the .pu settings results from tool is so far from our game. (too big.)
I guess this problem comes from camera position.
what I need is:
Show Camera Position
Set CameraPosition at Startup

thx.

You can zoom in with the mousewheel, but the position isn't stored in the config file. I can do that in the next version, so the position is kept at restart.

0, 0, 0
The camera also doesn't move. The Scenenode to which the particle system is attached moves ;)
The default position of the Scenenode is 0, 0, -1000

<edit>Do you mean you want a version with camera position displayed on screen? I want to avoid to create intermediate versions, because it takes a lot of time (create setup, distribute it to other people, update share-it.</edit>

Yes, It is good to Displaying the Camera position.

but Setting up the Camera Position is still required for the test accuracy between tool and our game. (Our Default coordinate is too much smaller then this tool.)

or if it takes time to creating setup system, we are appreciate by accepting following request .
1. Displaying Camera Position
2. detail Camera Control. (because our coordinate is small. it could be good by combination with shift + wheel like that... , will it be temporary work?)

My idea is to add a slider to the menu that controls the 'camera scale'. The settings varies between
 large scale particle systems with coarse grained camera zoom
 small scale particle systems with fine grained camera zoom. T
The camera position or the distance between camera and particle system are displayed on screen. All settings are added to a config file.
Please don't expect that I release this feature very soon. Next release was originally planned in 6 months, but I will try to do it earlier.

Sounds like a similar issue to ours, the problem is that the small scale of the FX causes them to get clipped when camera is too close.

@ Spookyboo - If you try resizing one of your explosions or something to about 1-5% (which is appropriate to OGRE) then zoom in, you'll see what I mean. This is possibly what our esteemed colleague above means by needing to alter camera position.

I'm in midst of scripting some explosions for a vehicle combat game, got some nice oily smoke etc. Vehicles in-game are maybe 3-5 metres long so reasonable explosions start at maybe 10-15 metres across in the busy part. Things like little smoke puffs from ejected trails fade at about 50cm diameter, sparks and flames are tiny.

It is currently impossible to see these tiny components in editor, closest zoom I can get which doesn't totally clip out the FX displays the whole system at about 200 pixels wide (I can post a shot but u probably get my drift). And that's a tank explosion with extra meaty chunks. You can see how bloodsplats might be tricky ;)

In version 1.3 I can get as close as 1 unit distance between the particle system and the camera.I have tried it now and it is possible to create small particle systems. If the distance between camera and particle system < 1 it gets clipped; the nearest clipplane is at distance 1 from the camera, because smalled distances give strange results.

Ah sweet thanks for the quick reply too! I'm still on 1.1. I'll update and try it out. Again, great work on PU
